What’s the difference between a student and an intern?
A student is completing the Certificate IV in Contemporary Leadership participating in lectures and tutorials and Stream work. Whereas an intern’s focus is solely in the practical Stream work. (See Option 1 and 2 for more details)
Do I need any kind of qualification to apply?
Applicants must be over 18 years of age; and if under 21 years of age, must have completed equivalent to year ten of high school. Must be Currently active in a church for at least 12 months and provide a pastoral reference accordingly. Complete the necessary application form and all its details.
Where will I stay?
Planetshakers College does not offer accommodation, however we are more than happy to help you find an appropriate place to stay in the city of Melbourne. Most students tend to find housing together, so please let us know if you are looking for a place to live and we can point you in the right direction.
What about work?
It is the student’s responsibility to find part time employment whilst doing college. We encourage you to get part-time employment so you can fund your living expenses. Enquire about our school care program for children if you are interested in this type of employment.
How many days will I have to work?
You will have three free days in the full 7 day week available to work.
Is studying at the college a requirement, or can I just do an internship?
Yes, you can complete the internship program on its own, without studying the Certificate IV in Contemporary Leadership. There is no accreditation associated and you will be involved in stream work for 3 days a week.
Can I just study at the college without any Stream involvement?
You must participate in the practical Stream work and Sunday Church work if you are a student. This is a requirement for those completing the Certificate IV in Contemporary Leadership as placement and practical hours are compulsory to graduate.
Am I able to do a six month internship?
Yes, applicants are able to complete a six month internship.
Are there many extra expenses?
Extra expenses include accommodation costs, food, bills and transport. If you are a student you will need to purchase some text books prior to commencing.
Do I need a car to do College?
It is not a requirement to own a car; however we do encourage you to so as it helps getting around to various venues we have our events at.
Do I need to attend Planetshakers City Church while doing college?
Attending PSCC is compulsory throughout the college year.
Can I study by correspondence?
No, at this stage you can only attend Planetshakers College in Melbourne Australia.
Will I have the opportunity to actively participate in chapel services?
All students and Interns will participate in weekly chapel services, conferences, church courses, leadership events and retreats.
How many days a week will be required of me?
You will be required for four days (min) of service each week, this is including Sunday.
What if I have just begun attending church, am I able to enrol in College?
Applicants must be currently active in a church for at least 12 months.
What if I want to continue study after completion of my certificate IV?
In 2011 Planetshakers will offer a Diploma in Contemporary Leadership. Students completing the Certificate IV will earn entry in to the Diploma.
As a college student, will my study be recognised if I continue study elsewhere?
Yes, your study will be nationally and recognized internationally. Of course this is dependent on the institution you are intending to study at, but you can expect to gain credit towards another study program.
Am I able to participate in two streams?
Due to the course load, it is not possible to study more than one stream at a time.
Does the college offer financial aid or loans?
The college does not provide scholarships or financial aid. The Certificate IV in Contemporary Leadership course is however AUSstudy approved and so some government financial support is available for those eligible.
